The Transfix Shipper App will calculate the density of your shipment based on the information you provide, which can then be used to determine the freight class. We strongly encourage you to verify the dimensions, quantity and weight of your shipment before accepting a quote from a carrier. Please note that carriers reserve the right to inspect all shipments and that any discrepancies or excessive size/weight will usually incur additional fees.
To get started, use the Shipper App to calculate the density of your shipment:
Enter the combined height x width x depth (including packaging) of all the pallets in your shipment.
The Shipper App will automatically divide that number by 1,728 (the number of cubic inches in a cubic foot) in order to calculate how many cubic feet your shipment will use, and will then divide the weight of your shipment by the total cubic feet. This will be the density of your shipment.
48 x 40 x 40 (dimensions) = 76,800
76,800 x 5 (number of pallets) = 384,000
384,000 / 1,728 (cubic inches per cubic foot) = 222
500 (total weight) / 222 = 2.5
Based on your shipment’s density, your freight class can be determined using this table:
Density | Freight Class |
1 or lower | 500 |
1 - 2 | 400 |
2 - 3 | 300 |
3 - 4 | 250 |
4 - 5 | 200 |
5 - 6 | 175 |
6 - 7 | 150 |
7 - 8 | 125 |
8 - 9 | 110 |
9 - 10.5 | 110 |
10.5 - 12 | 92.5 |
12 - 13.5 | 85 |
13.5 - 15 | 77.5 |
15 - 22.5 | 70 |
22.5 - 30 | 65 |
30 - 35 | 60 |
35 - 50 | 55 |
50 and higher | 50 |
